KSB 1.4 — The principles of business transformation and how organisations integrate different management functions in the context of technological change
Situation
Two projects during my role required analysing how technology could support organisational change across multiple operational functions. The first was the design of an applicationfor Client_2, an internal operations platform intended to replace a fragmented administrative environment consisting of spreadsheets, emails, and manual reporting across a network of gyms. The second was a proposed upgrade to the Client_1’s service website, which relied heavily on SAP ERP data and required restructuring the interaction between the website, database layer, and SAP queries to support new operational workflows. Both projects required understanding how technology could restructure existing business processes.
Task
My responsibility was to analyse the existing business processes used by each organisation and determine how these processes could be supported or improved through new or updated technology systems. This required identifying how different management functions relied on existing tools and workflows, and designing technical solutions that could integrate these processes into more structured digital platforms. The objective was to ensure that technological change supported organisational operations rather than disrupting them.
Action
For Client_2 I produced requirements for a centralised operations platform replacing spreadsheet-based reporting with automated task management and analytics dashboards for gym managers and central teams. For the Client_1’s website upgrade I analysed SAP integration and proposed restructuring queries, importer plugins, and database architecture to better align the website with operational service workflows.
Result
These projects demonstrated how technological change can support organisational transformation by aligning digital systems with business management processes. In both cases the outcome was a structured technical design that allowed operational workflows, reporting functions, and business data to be integrated into more coherent digital systems. This reduced reliance on fragmented manual processes and enabled organisations to improve operational oversight, reporting accuracy, and the long-term scalability of their businesses.
